  New Global Citizens: NGC is offering Phoenix high school students the opportunity to weigh in on national issues along with grassroots community projects all over the world. This Phoenix based non-profit organization is seeking to empower youth by providing them with the resources to affect global change. Youth Leadership Institute/Latinas Vote!: The Hispanic Women's Corporation is hosting a series of workshops for up to 400 junior and senior females. In addition, Chicanos Por La Causa will be a civic engagement initiative for youth in an effort to register youth voters in the latino community. The event is scheduled on October 9, 2008 with a deadline of October 1 and is accepting students from across the valley. To reserve a seat, email HWCYouth@yahoo.com or visit the website.

Edutopia Youth Voices: Edutopia.org wants to hear from you about which skills you think your school should teach to help you succeed in life. Create a video answering the question "What do you think is the most important skill to learn for your future -- and why?" and submit it by October 15. M&I Bank Scholarships: M&I Bank is now accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors talented in academics and athletics. Ten $500 scholarships and one $5000 scholarship will be awarded. Applications are available at all M&I Bank branches and should be submitted by October 25th. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honors young people in middle- and high-school for outstanding volunteer service to their communities. Created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the awards constitute the United States' largest youth recognition program based solely on volunteering. Over the past 13 years, the program has honored more than 80,000 young volunteers at the local, state and national level. Applications are due by October 31st, 2008. Valley Teen Leadership Class: Valley Teen Leadership is now accepting applications from sophmores and juniors in high school for their Valley Leadership Class, giving students an opportunity for leadership development and mentoring. Students interested in leadership and making positive change in their communities should apply. The program runs January through April 2009, meeting twice a month. Application are due by November 10th, 2008. For more information please visit their website.

H2O4U Competition: The Central Arizona Project has an online educational game for middle school and high school students called H2O4U and is offering prizes for teachers and students. Teachers can register classes and use the program as a unit of study, as it correlates to state standards, and track their progress. Teachers with the most finishers will win $50 Barnes and Noble gift cards, and student participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $1,000 educational scholarship! Deadline is November 15th. Outstanding Young Man, Young Woman of the Year Award: Applications are now being accepted for the City of Phoenix Outstanding Young Man, Young Woman of the Year Award. One young man and one young woman will be selected from each of the eight Council districts in the City of Phoenix based on their achievements and contributions to their communities, and two overall winners will also be selected. Council district winners will receive $250 and the overall winners will receive $2000 plus two round trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines. The deadline to apply is November 19th. Nestlé Very Best in Youth: Nestlé Very Best in Youth has launched a nationwide search for young people, 13-18, who excel on both school and the community. Created to spotlight the best in youth leadership, the program identifies teens whose efforts are making a profound impact in lives other than their own. Applications are due November 20th, 2008. Phoenix Sister Cities Youth Ambassador Exchange: The Youth Ambassador Exchange Program is available to high school sophomores and juniors in the Phoenix area. This program offers students the opportunity to visit one of Phoenix’s 10 sister cities next summer to learn more about the city and its culture through a three-week home-hosted experience.
