The 27th Avenue Solid Waste Management Facility is located at the intersection of 27th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. The facility includes a major garbage transfer station, materials recovery facility (MRF), closed landfill, a contracted mulching facility, methane collection and burn system, self haul area and other solid waste management related functions. When the facility was opened in 1993, it was a model in modern transfer station design. It remains that today with visitors from around the world to see its operation efficiencies and effective results. The facility also includes many artistic features as the architect, engineers and artists worked together on the initial design of the project.
