Phoenix Residents Can Learn How to Fight Blight in Their Neighborhood

Phoenix residents can learn what they can do to prevent blight and neighborhood preservation ordinance violations during a free workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Phoenix City Hall, Assembly Room A, 200 W. Washington St.

The workshop, "Help Put the Diamond-Back Into Your Neighborhood," is sponsored by the city of Phoenix Neighborhood Services Department in partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona Public Service and is part of a series of workshops that focus on proper property maintenance.

Participants will learn to how to take an active role in fighting common blight violations.

They'll find out how to dispose trash properly, maintain vegetation, park in designated areas, remove visible outdoor storage, eliminate graffiti, maintain fences, remove inoperable vehicles and secure vacant buildings.

The workshops are free, but registration is required. A complete listing of the workshops can be found on the city’s Web site at phoenix.gov/nsd.

Future workshop topics to be discussed include understanding landlord/tenant rights, developing neighborhood associations and how to recruit volunteers for neighborhood projects.

For more information or to register for the classes, call 602-534-8444.
