Devonshire Senior Center

The Devonshire Senior Center is located at 28th Street, one block north of Indian School Road, adjacent to the 24-acre Los Olivos Park. The 23,000 sq. ft. center offers a fitness center, dance/exercise room, billiards room, meeting space and an art gallery. The Human Services Department offers nutritional and social services for seniors.

The city's Human Services and Parks and Recreation departments together provide a variety of services and activities at the Devonshire Senior Center. Parks staff provides recreational and general interest programming to participants over 18 and Human Services staff provides social services, recreational and nutritional services and activities for older adults.





Amenities

Auditorium: Stage with curtains, lighting and public-address system; large retractable screen; space for 35 six-foot tables and 200 chairs.

Kitchen: Stove, four ovens, refrigerator, freezer, ice machine and roll-top counter serving area.

Interest Classes
New! Register for classes on-line

Devonshire Senior Center offers five 8-week sessions per year. Each session typically includes 45-60 classes and/or workshops in the following areas: Art, Computer, Dance, Exercise and Specialty. We offer many classes year round as well as seasonal and special-interest courses such as color mapping, mosaics, pet CPR, scrapbooking, and lipreading. Go to Class Schedule here.

Tthe center offers 8-10 special events throughout the year for seniors and their families, including the Tux & Tails New Year Celebration, Valentine's Day Talent Show, St. Patty's Spectacular, Way We Wore Fashion Show and Tea, ice cream social, USO Show, Deck the Halls Holiday Celebration and more.

Weekly and monthly programming includes Wednesday Dances and Ballroom Dance classes and dances, bingo, bunco, duplicate/party bridge, pinochle, dart baseball, movies, day trips, mah-jong, etc. Please call or e-mail the center for information about activities.

Health Services

Regularly scheduled workshops feature health professionals who offer information about diet, exercise, disease prevention and other health topics. The center also offers flu shots during cold and flu season. Free blood-pressure screenings are conducted twice monthly by retired volunteer nurses. Devonshire Senior Center hosts the following support groups: Sight ‘n’ Sound (for individuals dealing with the loss of eye sight or hearing); S.H.H.H (Self Help for Hard of Hearing, for adults dealing with hearing loss); and Alzheimer’s Education Group (a referral and support group). Volunteer Opportunities

The Center relies heavily on volunteers for programs, activities and events. Volunteer opportunities abound, from one-time events to weekly activities, to drop-in assistance. Volunteering is a wonderful way to enhance the quality of life for yourself and others: “We would love to see your smiling face.”

Los Olivos Park Amenities

The 24-acre park features covered playground, restrooms, barbecue grills and picnic tables. Soccer fields and sand volleyball courts are available to the public during non-league periods. Use of the park and amenities are on a first-come basis. Park hours are 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.
