The center brings together students, volunteers and professionals of all ages and skill levels who are passionate about the arts. The center offers a full schedule of classes and programs in the visual and performing arts. The Phoenix Center was recently voted "Best Art Classes" by the New Times Art Journal. We invite you and your family to take advantage of the center’s many programs, events and classes.
	Amenities
	Third Street Theater – An intimate 215-seat theater that is home to the Phoenix Center Youth Theatre and other performing-arts groups. The theater is used for performances, plays, meetings and other events and may be rented for community or corporate functions (June, July and August excluded).
	Classrooms – The center has four classrooms and a multi-purpose room in the main building.
	Visual arts studios – Creative space for photography, ceramics, metals and painting.
	Art Gallery – A stop on Phoenix’s “First Friday” art tour, the gallery hosts several shows each year, including “African Vibes,” “Arte Latino en la Ciudad” and “Draw the Line.” Emerging artists are encouraged to submit pieces and works for showings and openings. Return to top

Performing Arts Programs
The center provides an exciting performing arts program for youths: The Phoenix Center Arts Academy. This includes CityJazz, Phoenix Center Youth Theatre and Phoenix Children's Chorus. The ensembles rehearse regularly at the Phoenix Center, perform locally, and have been invited to national and international performances.

The Phoenix Center Youth Theatre – The program is designed to give actors between ages 8 and 18 the chance to develop their art through the audition, rehearsal and performance experience. Plays and musicals are selected with the goal of developing theatrical skills and potential while cultivating a love for the theater. Auditions are held twice a year. Selected cast members must rehearse for several weeks and perform in two weekend productions.

CityJazz - CityJazz - This "big band" has been raising the roof at the Phoenix Center for more than 18 years. CityJazz consists of two 18 piece big bands and combos. The musicians who are between 10 and 18 years old, are given the opportunity to learn, improvise and perform jazz. Participants should plan on attending once-a-week rehearsals and all concerts. call (602) 262-4627 for more information or to audition.

The Phoenix Children’s Chorus – The chorus comprises four choirs: Prep, Cadet, Concert and Encore. The curriculum is designed to teach the art of choral singing to youths from second grade through high school. Chorus members are taught the basic elements of choral singing and performance skills. The Phoenix Children’s Chorus holds auditions in May and sponsors a summer music camp in August. Prior musical training is not required. Potential members need only possess a clear and pleasant singing voice, a love of singing and the desire to learn.

Classes

The class program is a major component of the Phoenix Center, which has courses for people of all ages.

Adults can study metals, photography, painting, drawing, ceramics and the performing arts and take special-interest classes. The center’s resident artists and guest instructors are professionals in their fields.

Metals – Classes in jewelry, casting, wire work and glass fusing.

Photography – Photography - Instruction in black-and-white and dark room techniques, digital photography and occasional field trips.

Painting and drawing – Instruction in figure-painting, sketching and drawing, with some open workshop time.

Ceramics – Instruction in hand-building, sculpture, throwing, raku, and clay, with open-studio options.

Special-interest workshops – Offers participants the opportunity to explore a variety of media arts. Check each class session for workshop opportunities.

Performing arts – Classes in music, dance and theater.

Youth classes include instruction in visual arts, theatre, music, dance and special-interest workshops. Professional instructors provide a nurturing class environment that brings out a child’s creativity.

Visual Arts instruction exposes youths to a variety of visual arts, including clay, painting, drawing, ceramics and even fun balloon art.

Theater Classes introduce children to the stage through the Thespian Series, improvisation and full-scale productions.

Music classes in guitar, piano and voice develop burgeoning talent.

Dance classes include hip hop, salsa and jazz.

Special interest classes run the gamut from babysitting to juggling to mime.

	Special Programs & Events
	Visual Arts Holiday Sale – The annual sale features handmade items produced by the center’s resident artists, instructors and students. The Visual Arts Mentorship Program – Youths are given the opportunity to study with the center’s resident artists to further their arts education.
