Choosing a Trip - Seat availability on RAPID and Express Trips

Route SR-51 operates Monday through Friday. There are two branches to this route, which has three morning pickup/afternoon drop-off locations. Passengers can drive their cars, carpool, bike or walk to or be dropped off at the RAPID park-and-rides. Some local buses also go to these RAPID points such as the Route 32 Connector to Shea/SR-51 (Dreamy Draw).

There are multiple RAPID stops from downtown Phoenix to the State Capitol for morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Most stops are located at the distinctive RAPID stations. A few stops are sign only; look for the RAPID logo.

To confirm you are taking the right bus, check the bus destination sign - it is the lighted sign in front of the bus above its windshield.

RAPID fare is $1.75 per trip and can be paid by cash or bus pass. Passengers connecting to RAPID from a local bus pay an extra 50 cents or must use a RAPID/Express day pass.

Information on seat availability and average daily passenger counts per trip. Buses do accommodate standing passengers.

Chart Information:

• Time: Identifies RAPID trips by first pickup. Identifies Express trips by first Phoenix park-and-ride pick up.
• Daily Average: Average number passengers on each trip, numbers have been rounded up.
• % Seats Taken: Shows the percentage of seats used based on the daily average. For RAPID, there are 41 seats. For Express, there are 36 seats.

Choosing a Trip: If you have a flexible schedule, you might consider these options:

• Try Mondays and Fridays; they typically have less riders.


• Early morning and late afternoon trips usually have the lower percentage of overall passengers.

RAPID SR-51 Morning trips begin at Bell Rd. unless from (PV) Paradise Valley Mall. All afternoon trips go to Shea Blvd.; most go on to Bell Rd., a few go on to (PV) Paradise Valley Mall.
