Pueblo Grande Museum Collections Pueblo Grande is, first and foremost, an archaeological site museum, dedicated to preserving objects and documents from the Pueblo Grande site. It also serves as the repository for professionally excavated archaeological project collections from the Phoenix metropolitan area. Approximately 95% of its collections fall into these two categories. Both prehistoric and historic sites are represented. In addition, the Museum collects historic and contemporary Native American art objects, especially from cultures with long standing ties to the Salt River Valley, such as the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Piipash (Maricopa). Historic Maricopa pottery is a current collecting priority. |
Preservation Mandate Pueblo Grande Museum holds its collections in trust for the people of the City of Phoenix. The Museum staff is responsible for preserving the physical and scientific integrity of the artifact and record collections, so that they may be used to fulfill the Museum’s Mission. The Collections Staff is entrusted with the daily care of the collections. To fulfill this obligation, the Collections Staff is responsible for keeping current on preservation information and techniques, and identifying and addressing training needs. Collections Staff is also responsible for communicating with the rest of the staff and the public regarding the importance of preservation and preservation issues. |

Collections Staff Statement of Purpose The Collections Staff supports the mission of Pueblo Grande Museum through the preservation of artifact and archival collections; through research of objects and their contexts; by making the collections and collections information accessible for public programs and research; by contributing to educational programs for staff, volunteers, and the public. |
