Ahwatukee Foothills News

November 2006

Foothills Chamber Boosting Small Businesses and Education

The heart and soul of Ahwatukee Foothills is great people, schools and small businesses. One organization that puts both education and small business support at the center of its mission is the Ahwatukee Foothills Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber's grown from its inception just 12 years ago and now has an expanding list of more than 650 members.

As you may have heard, the Chamber's outstanding leader, John McComish, is stepping down. A big thanks goes to John for his excellent service heading the Chamber. He will continue to do a great job representing Ahwatukee Foothills in the state legislature.

We are lucky to have found another great leader. Linda Pastori will start as the new President and CEO in January. Linda is leaving a fun and challenging position at public television station Channel 8, where she oversees fundraising and development. Linda is familiar to all who work with the Chamber. She has been on the board for four years and served as chair of the "Women in Business" committee.

One of the initiatives she has worked hard on is a scholarship program the committee sponsors for young women; high school seniors who hope to pursue business in college. They've raised money and have already awarded two scholarships.

"It's important to invest in the education of our students," Pastori said. "We encourage them to get as much education as they can and inspire them to stay here in Ahwatukee."

Pastori says that today's young people are key for all of our economic futures.

"I think we need to raise entrepreneurs and business owners," Pastori said. "It's critical and we can be a real catalyst for setting the example."

By working with the community, helping in our schools, getting resources to present businesses and attracting new ones, the Chamber will continue as a strong leader in the Foothills community.

"We will focus on getting more businesses to move to Ahwatukee, so people can have a great quality of life living and working here," Pastori said.

Thanks to effective leaders like John McComish and Linda Pastori, the heart of Ahwatukee business is beating strong.
