Foothills Police Force Devoted to Excellent Service

Safety is the most important thing for a family and a community.

As your Councilman and a member of the City Council Public Safety Subcommittee, I can assure you that we value your safety as our number-one priority. Of course we're not always perfect, but from my experience, I know we have a highly professional, hard-working force.

Ahwatukee Foothills is part of the South Mountain Police Precinct. Commander Dave Faulkner heads that precinct, started as an officer in the precinct 24 years ago and lives in the Foothills.

He has seen police coverage grow to meet the Foothills' expanding needs.

The Foothills had few residents or calls for service 20 years ago. As homes went up, a few officers at a time patrolled, but were not stationed here.

Then in 1997 the Ahwatukee Crime Prevention Task Force worked closely with police to establish a small substation at 4601 E. Ray Road. A few years later, officers moved into their present facilities, near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard. And in January, a brand new substation will open in the new Pecos Community Center.

Dedicated police coverage in Ahwatukee Foothills includes nearly 50 officers:
  • 30 patrol officers, six sergeants and a lieutenant stationed here and working shifts throughout the week
  • a sergeant and four officers on a Neighborhood Enforcement Team, targeting crime problems and major issues
  • six school resource officers working with our youth
  • two new Community Action Officers - you can reach officers Armida Gonzalez and Jared Charley at 602-534-2892.

You can also call the South Mountain Police Precinct anytime at 602-495-5004.

Compared to most other areas of Phoenix, Ahwatukee Foothills receives many fewer calls for service. That's one sign of a safe community. And we have the police presence to take care of our needs.

I'm proud of our officers and community leaders who work together to make the Foothills a safe place with a great quality of life.

Our congratulations go out to a departing officer who spent part of his career overseeing police coverage in Ahwatukee Foothills. Lt. Michael Cecchini of the South Mountain Precinct is moving back to his home state of Michigan to serve as the new police chief in Bay City. Lt. Cecchini spent 20 years serving Phoenix residents on the police force and we wish the best of luck to him and his family.
