Councilman Greg Stanton's
Arcadia News Column
April 2000
It is with great honor that I write my first Arcadia News column as the new councilman representing District 6. On Feb. 23, I was appointed by the Phoenix City Council to replace Sal DiCiccio, who resigned to run for Congress. I will serve as your council representative until a special election is conducted Sept. 12.
While serving as your councilman, I will focus on neighborhood preservation, increased police and fire services, and parks and recreation programming improvements.
First though, you might be wondering, “Who is Greg Stanton?” Here’s a bit of my background.
I’ve been active in District 6 for many years, serving on the Camelback East and Ahwatukee Foothills village planning committees. I’ve also participated in numerous other community activities, including the Phoenix Citizen Police Academy, Valley Leadership and Maricopa County Bar Association Committee on Children. Additionally, I volunteer my time for Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters, where I am a big brother mentor for Desmond, a 12-year-old sixth grader.
Most recently, I dedicated much of my time to the Transit 2000 committee which voters overwhelmingly supported on March 14. My father, Fred, took the bus to and from work as a shoe salesman for 22 years so I am very aware of the improvements that need to be made to our existing transit system.
Finally, I am proud to have received the strong support of neighborhood leaders and while I’m familiar with many of the issues in the Arcadia community, I’m eager to meet with neighborhood groups to learn more about your goals and plans. Please call my office at (602) 262-7491 or e-mail me at gstanton@ci.phoenix.az.us and I’d be happy to meet with you.
