Fun, free river adventure for challenged teens

If you're wondering what kinds of challenging activities your teen can do this summer, the city of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department may have the perfect answer.

The River Rampage offers teens with disabilities the trip of a lifetime.

It's fun, free, adventurous, and the best part of it is that it's absolutely free.

River Rampage is a rafting adventure for young people, ages 14 to 20, who are faced with significant physical challenges.

The teens have an opportunity to experience an exhilarating week of white-water rafting down the San Juan River in Utah.

The River Rampage has installed state-of-the-art specialized equipment to ensure safety for our disabled teens. The River Rampage also employs certified experts who specialize in meeting the needs of disabled teens.

There are three trips scheduled for this summer, June 6 - 12, July 11 - 17 and August 1 - 7.

There is no financial cost for participating, however in order for the teens to earn their trip they are asked to volunteer for 40 hours of community service under the guidance of a mentor.

They can volunteer for any organization they choose, including churches, schools, recreation centers, and any other service-oriented organizations.

For an application, please call 602-534-5681 (voice) or 602-534-2491 (TTY) or by e-mail to: tj.penkoff@phoenix.gov.

Applications are available in English, Spanish, Braille and large print.

The River Rampage is a summer experience your teen will never forget.
