Vice Mayor Michael Johnson's
Arizona Informant Column
Aug. 30, 2005

The 2005 Census is here: please fill it out

Chances are that by the time you begin reading this message, your household may have already received a Census survey.

As I’ve mentioned before, all the cities, towns and Native American communities in Maricopa County are participating in a mid-decade statistical Census survey.

One in 13 households are receiving this short, confidential survey to revise population figures for all the cities and towns.

These revised figures will help to ensure that shared revenues will be equitably distributed to cities to provide basic city services, such as fire and police protection, youth and senior programs and public transit service.

The first batch of surveys is being mailed out this week and some residents are expected to receive their survey as early as Sept. 1.

If you receive a survey, please complete the survey return it in the pre-paid envelope as soon as possible.

Remember, your completion of the Census Survey not only will represents you, but 12 households in your neighborhood. The responses you provide will ensure that your community and city will receive their fair share of funding for the services they need.

The is only nine questions, and it takes approximately five minutes to complete. That’s all. No questions about income, legal status or spending habits.

So by completing the survey, you will be contributing to the well-being of your community for many years to come.

Michael Johnson is Phoenix Vice Mayor and represents District 8. His office can be reached at 602-262-7493 or at michael.johnson@phoenix.gov via e-mail.
