Johnson Continues Dedication to Public Service
Sky Harbor's Councilman Elected Vice Mayor
Michael Johnson has served as a Phoenix City Councilmember for three years. He currently chairs the Downtown Sports and International Subcommittee, is vice president of the Combined Fraternal Organization of South Phoenix, serves on the Public Safety Subcommittee, the Education, Culture and Genomics Subcommittee, and the Housing, Neighborhood Economic Revitalization and Historic Preservation Subcommittee. On Feb. 1, Johnson assumed another role. He was elected vice mayor by his fellow council members.
The 21-year police veteran represents Phoenix District 8, which encompasses a portion of central Phoenix, east Phoenix, downtown and many areas of south Phoenix.
Johnson has been supportive of a number of initiatives to help Sky Harbor meet passenger demand including the much anticipated Rental Car Center. "This is a great project that will have a significant economic impact and include a much-needed boost for jobs," said Johnson.
He has also been a strong supporter of Terminal 4's recently unveiled concourse. "This concourse captures the grandeur and romance of the old train stations, yet is functional and modern. It truly demonstrates how far we have come in terms of flying and airport comfort."
"As a councilman, Michael Johnson understood Sky Harbor's economic importance to the city and to the region but also emphasized the airport's duty to be a good neighbor. We look forward to this continued partnership with Vice Mayor Johnson in his new role," said Marsha Wallace, the deputy city manager overseeing Aviation.
