CITY COUNCIL POLICY SESSION

Pursuant to A.R.S. § 38431.02, notice is hereby given to the members of the City Council and to the general public that the City Council will hold a meeting open to the public on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. located in the City Council Chambers, 200 West Jefferson, Phoenix, Arizona.  Council members may participate by telephone.  As indicated in the Agenda, the City Council may vote to go into Executive Session, which will not be open to the public, for the purpose of discussing those matters listed on the Agenda.

ARIZONA’S BIOSCIENCE ROADMAP FIVE-YEAR UPDATE

In spring 2002, in partnership with the City and many other stakeholders, the Flinn Foundation commissioned the Battelle Memorial Institute (Battelle) to conduct a comprehensive study of the biosciences sector in Arizona to assess the state’s competitive position in the biosciences and to develop a strategic plan for the bioscience industry for the next decade.  This report provides information to the Mayor and City Council on Arizona’s Bioscience Roadmap five-year update.

BIOSCIENCE REAL ESTATE MARKET UPDATE

The investment by the City of Phoenix and the State of Arizona in the development of the bioscience industry has attracted bioscience companies and is attracting an employment base that is building the knowledge based economy which is needed in the twenty-first century.  This effort to develop a bioscience industry and knowledge base workforce is being realized with the continued development of the PBC and other successes throughout the state.  This report provides information to the Mayor and City Council on Arizona’s Bioscience Real Estate Market.

BIOMEDICAL CAMPUS AND CITYWIDE BIOSCIENCE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITY

In 2002, the City furthered its commitment to building a knowledge-based economy in the biosciences with the development of the TGen/IGC headquarters and assemblage of the 28-acre Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC).  This report provides an update to the Mayor and City Council on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus and other citywide bioscience economic development activity.
